Sanger, Fresno County
Sanger calls itself the Nation's Christmas Tree City. Since 1926 its residents have organized a December pilgrimage to the General Grant Tree, a giant sequoia in the mountains to the east that was designated the national Christmas tree. In the 1890s a flume more than fifty miles long floated lumber from the Sierra down to the mill at Sanger.
